What to Expect During an IPL Treatment

IPL treatment

If you’re dealing with signs of aging or sun damage, you may benefit from an IPL treatment. IPL stands for intense pulsed light. This treatment is commonly used on the face in order to address sun damage, age spots, and rosacea.

How Does It Work?

After being prepared by the technician, the light is directed at the skin in the treatment area in a skilled and precise way. The light penetrates the skin and targets the blood vessels and brown spots that can occur. This, in turn, removes them and creates a singular skin tone rather than having splotches of brown or red on the face. Treatments can range from a single treatment to several depending on how much the area needs to be treated. As such, IPL treatment is not one-size-fits-all.

Patients may experience a quick “flicking” or “snapping” sensation along with a cooling sensation. The sensation occurs when the light penetrates the skin to remove the brown or red spots. With that being said, the treatment is entirely non-invasive and well-tolerated by most of our clients.

A Note About Rosacea

Those who suffer from rosacea can sometimes be self-aware and self-conscious of the imperfections on their skin. One of the treatments they can receive is an IPL treatment. Because it focuses on those browns and red areas in the skin, IPL can attempt to smooth and create a singular skin tone in the patient. It does this by targeting the red blood vessels that are responsible for creating rosacea. The equipment used in IPL can be switched to target different shades of colors, further promoting the likelihood of treating rosacea and helping the patient become further comfortable in their own skin.

Easy and Quick

Since IPL treatment is non-invasive, most patients can expect to be able to go right back to work or their activities after the treatment. While they may need further treatments to take care of any remaining brown or red spots or other issues, the treatments are relatively quick and convenient. Since sunspots and brown or red spots can appear with age, removing them can give the patient a healthier, more youthful appearance. IPL treatment, thus, can promote a younger, smoother aesthetic.
