Are you starting to see some of the tell-tale signs of aging on your skin? Fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots caused by sun exposure or simply time well spent are just a few of the characteristics that we don’t like to see on ourselves. We know it is inevitable but would like to put a hold on time for a while when it comes to the way our bodies and skin looks because of age. We have found a non-invasive solution to these dreaded skin problems. We’re talking about IPL treatments.
How Does IPL Work?
This treatment targets selected skin irregularities using photothermolysis into the dermis. This is easily explained by breaking this large scientific word down a bit.
- Photo- the absorption of light or photons into pigments in the skin
- Thermo- the transformation of that absorbed light into heat
- Lysis- is the destruction of specific cells caused by the high temperatures of that heat
So, in layman’s terms, IPL treatments in OKC will project a highly concentrated light, not a laser, onto certain areas of your skin. This light is then absorbed by your pigments. As it is being absorbed, it causes those pigments to heat up. They get hot enough that it damages the discolored cells. These damaged cells will then slowly rise to the surface and fade naturally. This light also stimulates collagen production in your skin and, therefore, will allow the skin to be smoother and more elastic. This light also has an added effect of damaging dark pigments of hair in the treated areas. Therefore, it is possible to notice less hair growth in the area as well.
How Often Do I Need Treatments?
The answer to this is highly dependent on the area you are going to target as well as the type of issues being addressed and the patient’s skin type, color, and condition. This will be discussed during your consultation at our office in OKC. Most areas need to be treated by IPL treatments multiple times for optimal results.
Is There Anything I Should Do?
It is always very important that you discuss any IPL treatments with an expert to make sure that this is the best option for you at this time. If you do continue with this treatment, your skin needs to be very close to your natural color for this to work properly. There are relatively no side effects from IPL treatments. However, you should follow the instructions we give you before and after the treatment to enjoy the best outcome.
